Australian Maple: Flindersia spp.
This species is not at all related to the northern hemisphere maples.
They are often huge trees that are usually only noticed when they drop their distinctive fruit.
They open up their usually 5 arms, (looking like a woody, knobbly octopus), to let go of the many light, papery winged seeds.
Storms or cockatoos often knock unopened fruits to the floor.
