Cottonwood/Beach Hibiscus: Hibiscus tiliaceus
Is the most commonly seen species of this family associated with tropical rainforest in Australia.
It is usually a small tree with heart-shaped leaves.
It produces a large flower that usually only lasts for a day, goes red, the drops.
The plant is commonly along the Cape Tribulation road, in the rainforest along the tropical coast and along larger tidal rivers such as the Daintree and Russel/Mulgrave, where the flowers are often seen floating on the surface of the water.
