Tinaroo Lake/Dam & Lookout Centre Tinaroo Lockout centre: Location: Tinaroo is a little township located near the Tinaroo Dam Wall. Facilities: Toilets, shelter, timber BBQ, information boards, brochures on Danbulla Forest Drive and camping areas. Fire wood is also for sale.
Tinaroo Lake/Dam: History: The dam was constructed as a water reservoir for irrigation purposes for the Mareeba/Dimbulah area. It was also used for recreational purposes. In 1959 the dam flooded and the town of Kalura, close to Yungaburra was under water.
General Information: Location: From Tolga, Atherton or Yungaburra via Kairi to Tinaroo, or from Gilles Highway via Danbulla Forest Drive. Facilities: It offers its visitors Café Pensini's, located at the dam lookout - hence great lake views are available whilst you enjoy lunches at the Deckbar, light snacks, A'la'Carte meals, morning and afternoon teas. Activities: Water-skiing, jet skiing, sailing, canoeing, fishing, bird watching and swimming. Also around the lake, there are picnic and barbeque areas as well as a boat ramp for your convenience. Fish caught in the dam include: Barramundi, Eeltailed Catfish, Sooty Grunter, Sleepy Cod, Mouth Almighty, Archer Fish, Spangled Perch, Long Tom and Red Claw.
